Newsletter October 2017

Summer

We hope you enjoyed our summer fare that we held in July. Our kitchen kindly served hamburgers and hotdogs, which went down like a treat! Thank you for all your amazing support.

Medical Students

Some of you may be aware that twice a month for a number of years during term times, we have had 3 or 4 medical students visiting from The University of Liverpool who worked alongside the care team on a Monday morning. However due to circumstances beyond the control of the university the students will no longer be visiting the home. This is disappointing as the students benefitted greatly from gaining experience of how the care team supported residents with dementia.

Walk and have Fun

Well done to Diane and Sue who completed the Memory Walk on the 3rd September 2017 on behalf of the Alzheimer Society and raised £900!

Protected Meal Times

While we appreciate you lead busy lives we would be grateful if you would appreciate the need for the home to have protected meals times. The times are:
12.30 to 2pm
4.30pm to 6pm
This period of time enables residents to enjoy their meal without any disruptions that may occur through having visitors. We acknowledge that these times may not fit in with your busy life style, therefore if you need to visit during these times can you please call us in advance and we will arrange for you to sit with your relative in the family room.

Ideas for Christmas Gifts

If you are short of ideas for Christmas gifts to buy your relative, if you speak to a member of staff they will be able to help you. However a few ideas are:
Underwear, night clothes, own bedding, slippers, bedroom lamp, hair brush and comb, personalised towel or a radio.

Visiting Policy

We recently developed a visitor’s policy, a copy of which is located on the wall in the reception. If you have any concerns, then please do not hesitate to contact Joan.

Accidents and emergencies

There are unfortunately times when accidents happened and your relative may need to go to A & E. As good practice we will always try and send a member of staff with your relative. However due to the needs of the home and remaining residents we can only commit to releasing staff for a maximum of 2 hours, therefore we would be grateful if you could attend the hospital, as this would allow staff to continue work at Redcourt.

Photographs Policy and Procedure

We will be shortly sending out a request form for you to sign and return to us, so that we have permission to take photographs of your relative during social events. If you are happy for us to take photographs of your relative, which we will share with you, then can you please sign and return the form to us.
